Our estate is a 370-acre piece of land stretching along the immense Alentejan plain.
Outlined by endlessly winding dirt roads and painted in the dark shades of the oak trees, here all paths lead to the country. On a bike or by foot, you may wander with no aim, because here the beauty of the simplest things is everywhere. If you’ve brought kids, let them roam free. But if they’re out to explore, make sure they’re taking their Ecological Passport with them. With that illustrated guide, they’ll be on a real wild expedition through the whole estate.
The richest asset to our property is called Mother Nature. The fauna there brings the fields alive. Here at Casas da Horta you’ll be meeting the dogs Famel, Miles and Cacau, 7 sheep, lots of chickens, a few horses and our donkey Jericó (they’re not for riding, just for luring you into giving them carrots and a lot of patting).
A rich warm smell of wet soil comes from our vegetable garden (‘horta’ in Portuguese). Just to honor that name, each season the Horta do Ti Armindo presents us with the freshest biological produce. From fruit and vegetables to tubers and pulses, all produce are there at your fingertips, ready to be picked.
At the small dam, the calm water glimmers in the sun, and our resident heron takes nose dives to play with the fish. You can watch it from the first row if you sit (quietly) on the wooden jetty. Or join the action in the water by hopping into one of our pedal boats. Or the rowing boat. Or the paddle board.
To make your stay even more exciting, here’s a revelation: we have a petanque field and a table football ready for the most competitive to get the game going.
Just come here and start exploring. Help yourself, it’s on the house. ;)
